Award-Winning British Dark Rum, Crafted in Dorset

At Black Ven Distillery, we believe great rum starts with great ingredients and careful craftsmanship. Our Dark Oak Aged Rum is made entirely from scratch in Dorset, using carefully selected molasses, our own fermentation and distillation process, and oak maturation to develop its distinctive character.

The result is a rich, full-flavoured British dark rum that has earned international recognition, winning a Bronze Medal at the 2025 International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC).

Made from Carefully Selected Molasses

The journey begins with high-quality baker’s molasses, selected for the natural sugars retained during its production.

We combine the molasses with carefully chosen rum yeast and manage the fermentation process to create the foundation of our spirit.

By making our own rum rather than purchasing a ready-made spirit, we have control over the production process, from fermentation through to the finished bottle.

Distilled and Oak Aged in Dorset

Following fermentation, we use a two-stage distillation process to produce our British rum.

The spirit is then matured in oak for approximately one year, allowing it to develop additional depth, character and complexity.

We believe that time spent in oak is an important part of creating a well-balanced dark rum, complementing the character developed during fermentation and distillation.

Rich Flavours of Caramel and Hazelnut

Our Dark Oak Aged Rum has been independently recognised by the judges of the International Wine & Spirit Competition.

The 2025 IWSC tasting notes highlight aromas of burnt caramel and hazelnut, reflecting the rich character of the finished spirit.
